Post-Blast Investigation & Forensics

Who this is for

Bomb technicians who operate in a post-blast role, arson and explosives investigators, federal and state task force members, forensic specialists, and prosecutors who need to understand the investigative chain from scene to courtroom.

What the course covers

• Post-blast scene processing — cordon establishment, grid mapping, and safety protocols before evidence work begins.
• Evidence collection and chain of custody — documentation that survives defense scrutiny.
• Forensic analysis techniques — component identification, residue sampling, and device reconstruction.
• Case file preparation — structuring findings for investigators, prosecutors, and federal partners.
• Expert witness preparation — testimony, courtroom demonstratives, and cross-examination resilience.
• Interagency coordination — working alongside ATF, FBI, fire investigators, and forensic labs.

How we teach it

Instruction draws on Combined Explosives Exploitation Cell (CEXC) experience, federal bomb technician post-blast casework, and international exploitation training delivered under Department of State-approved programs. Students work representative post-blast scenes under instructor supervision and leave with documentation templates and case-file structures they can use immediately.
